Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Insurance Defense Paralegal to support attorneys in the management and defense of litigation matters involving bodily injury, premises liability, construction defect, professional liability, automobile liability, workers' compensation, and general negligence claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation support experience, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys throughout all phases of insurance defense litigation, from case inception through trial and resolution.

  • Draft, prepare, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, and correspondence.

  • Manage and maintain case files, calendars, deadlines, and litigation databases.

  • Coordinate and schedule depositions, mediations, hearings, independent medical examinations (IMEs), expert inspections, and court appearances.

  • Review, summarize, and organize medical records, employment records, accident reports, and other case-related documentation.

  • Assist with discovery management, including document production, interrogatories, requests for admission, and responses.

  • Prepare deposition summaries, witness files, trial notebooks, exhibit lists, and trial preparation materials.

  • Conduct legal and factual research using legal research platforms and online resources.

  • Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel regarding case status and scheduling matters.

  • Draft litigation reports and case summaries for insurance carriers and attorneys.

  • Track litigation deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules, scheduling orders, and filing requirements.

  • Assist with settlement preparation, mediation submissions, and closing documentation.

  • Support attorneys during trial by organizing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and preparing courtroom materials.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited program preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation paralegal experience; insurance defense experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience handling bodily injury, premises liability, automobile liability, professional liability, construction defect, or general negligence matters preferred.

  • Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and court filing requirements.

  • Experience with state and federal court e-filing systems.

  • Proficiency in legal case management software, document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage a high-volume caseload.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with insurance carriers and claims professionals.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records review.

  • Ability to draft litigation-related documents with minimal supervision.

  • Experience preparing attorneys for depositions, mediations, and trial.

  • Familiarity with Clio, MyCase, ProLaw, Needles, Litify, TrialWorks, or similar platforms.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with legal teams.
